What is an e-Visa/ETA India?

Government of India has launched the e-Visa to India for 180 countries that enables Indian and international visitors to visit India for various leisure, medical and business purposes. An ETA is electronically linked to a traveller's passport. There are a range of categories & sub categories to the visa types which enables the international travellers to conveniently visit the Indian region.

All International travellers before entering India are required to hold a valid international travel document in the form of a national passport with a valid visa from an Indian Mission/Post or e-Visa or a regular visa prior from Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs.

ETA is Electronic Travel Authorization: It is an entry requirement for visa holding International travellers travelling to India

  • To attend any Ministry/State/PSUs or any Private Person/Companies/Organizations organizing the event.

Eligibility

1. International travellers whose only purpose for visiting India is any of the mentioned categories: Tourism, Medical, Business, Conference, Medical Attendant.

2. At least six months validity on the Passport from the date of arrival in India.

3. At least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer on the Passport.

4. Return ticket or onward journey ticket, with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India.

5. Pakistani Passport or Pakistani origin may please apply for regular Visa at Indian Mission.

6. Not available for

  • Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders.
  • Those endorsed on Parent's/Spouse's Passport i.e. each entity should have a separate passport.
  • International Travel Document Holders other than Passport.

  • One Year e-Tourist visa, stay up to 180 days.
  • Multiple times entry in visa validity time.
  • Same visa will not be attached to new passport and cannot be extended.
  • At least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer on the Passport.
  • Not eligible for Restricted, Protected or Cantonment areas.
  • At least six months validity on the Passport from the date of arrival in India.

Is India eVisa a stamp on the passport?

At the Airport immigrations need a printout of the Visa pdf sent through the email.

e-Visa is not stamped to a passport, it is electronically attached to passport and copy of a visa will be sent in pdf format to an email.
